Software Does Not Replace Brand Taste
Brand taste is the informed judgment to select creative direction, product positioning, and merchandising strategy based on pattern recognition, cultural intuition, and aesthetic conviction rather than historical performance data alone.

What Brand Taste Actually Does
Brand taste operates upstream of optimization. It answers: Which direction should we test? What aesthetic should define us? Which customer segment deserves our creative energy? These are selection problems, not execution problems.
A merchandiser with taste recognizes that a product with 2% conversion on its own might hit 8% when positioned next to a specific complementary item—not because the algorithm predicted it, but because the pairing feels inevitable once seen. Software excels at measuring which choice won. It fails at generating the choice itself. A/B testing can prove that headline A outperforms headline B. It cannot write either headline.
